Mindy Searcey As a child growing up I spent a lot of my time fantasizing about being a female version of Indiana Jones. After graduating high school I took this fantasy even further and majored in Anthropology. Throughout my years of study I came to realize that the truly appealing thing about being like Indiana Jones was all the great traveling. Don’t get me wrong, the treasures and historical relics were fascinating but to me the real treasure was to be found in the journey.
After college I took this new epiphany and went out into the world. I worked in galleries, clothing stores, surf shops and eventually became a professional photographer. All the while using these jobs to fuel my desire to travel. I visited as many places as I could and then some. All the while seeking treasure. I even found time to get a photography degree from the New York Institute of Photography.
Photographing sports was a very creative way to make a living. However, it was very demanding and I soon needed another creative outlet. It was at this point that the idea to make jewelry first came to me. I started with simple beading and composition and quickly realized that this was not enough. I needed more. I needed to work with metal. I bought tools and a blowtorch and quickly set about testing my limits and the limits of the metal I was working with.
I have now been making and designing jewelry for ten years and I am continually on a journey to be more than what I was yesterday. Each day I discover new treasures hidden within. Perhaps I’m not like Indiana Jones at all, but I do love a good adventure.
Grant Searcey I've been an artist for as long as I can remember and I've been painting and illustrating professionally for the past decade. In 2004 I began designing jewelry. Designing jewelry opens up my imagination to a third dimension allowing me to create an art form that is not limited to a flat surface. I'm inspired by organic shapes and natural growth. The jewelry I design serves as a means to permanently capture the forms I find in nature that can often be so temporary. I strive to be very unique and original with every piece I make. We are all different and what better way to express our individuality than by adorning ourselves with unique jewelry.
